The Wizard of Oz

Well, our school did it again. They pulled off 5 performances plus two recordings of an amazing play with a huge cast that included students from the 1st to the 9th grade.

Sadie was cast as a "Munchkin." This was her first experience with theater. Although it took some dedication the last few weeks, staying after school an extra 3 hours every day for rehearsals, and there were some days that she was very burnt out...SHE DID IT, and she says it was the most fun she's ever had!


Sadie has no desire to have a lead part at this point. "That would be too embarrassing," she says.

But she sure knows how to project on stage. Look at this bright face!



This scene was ADORABLE with all the bright colors and cute little faces. There were so many Munchkins that the tall ones like Sadie had to be on the floor for much of the scene, instead of up on stage. We were a little discouraged that we couldn't see her very well. I finally got a few shots of her today in their Saturday matinee performance. The audience was smaller, so I could get up to the front.
Here's her big line. It's when The Coroner is confirming the death of the Wicked Witch. Sadie backs her up by saying, "She's morally, ethically, spiritually, physically, positively, absolutely undeniably and reliably...DEAD!"

This is one of my favorites...all the little Munchkins waving goodbye to Dorothy.


She also was one of the "Poppies" that the Wicked Witch created in order to make the Lion, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Dorothy feel sleepy in the forest. She's hidden by the sleepy lion in this photo.

Here's Sadie with two of her girlfriends, Callie and Katie. As you can see here, Sadie is almost a head taller than many of her classmates this year! I imagine they'll catch up to her at some point.

G&G Fillmore drove over two hours to come and show their support. They are so wonderful. They also came to wish Max a happy birthday.

Aunt Jenny (not pictured because she was behind the camera as always) also came, along with her two girls and Michelle's two girls. Michelle had to stay home because she had a bad cold.

We have such a supportive family!





Landon (pictured here with his friend, Michael)became involved in the play the last two weeks. One of the directors, Mrs. Smith asked if he would be willing to help out on the Tech Crew. Apparently, they needed help in a very big way. So he rolled up his shirt sleeves and dove right in to the project. He had to stay as long as Sadie for the rehearsals every night. It was hard to keep up with his homework. But we made it. Things like this are always so challenging, but so rewarding as they experience the joy that comes from hard work and service. I'm so proud of both of them!
