The Goudys

I told you all that I wanted to spotlight friends or family members every so often. So here goes #2. I mentioned the Goudy's when I talked about the Englebright's. They were our other Aggie Village RA friends that have stuck with us through the years.
Here we are at the Mary Kay Seminar in 2003. She was my best team-member and it was fun to travel to Dallas together.

1) Marylynn is one of the brightest people I know. Her brain is a sponge, constantly sucking up whatever information she can get her hands on. Whether it's a book, newspaper, or magazine, she is reading every second she's not taking care of the necessities. She reads faster than a speeding bullet and retains every last crumb of it. She'll sit and chat about politics or the world with anyone who's intersted and always has such enlightening things to say.

2) Marylynn was the oldest of 10 kids and her mom died of Breast Cancer when she was a teen!! So she became a mommy at a very young age and I imagine her siblings really look up to her. Jordan has endured lots of loss in his life, as well. His dad died from Hutchinson's disease when he was young, and most of his siblings have inherited the disease, as well. His sister just died a month ago. No fun.

3) Marylynn LOVES to serve others, whether in the community or church or just because. For example, when they lived in St. George a short time ago, she was the Primary President AND PTA President, all while working at two colleges as a professor and being a mom. And she handles it all with such ease.

4) They had their first baby right at the end of college, then had to endure a good 9 or 10 years of watching all their friends and family members have more babies while they could not. Of course, they took on the trial with great courage and faith, and it paid off when little Boone was finally conceived via In Vitro Fertilization. He is a gift and big sister, Maika couldn't be more proud. What a blessing! To see some pictures of their kids, take a look at Marylynn's new blog.

5) Jordan worked as a flight plan coordinator (is that what it's called?) for SkyWest for quite a few years and they are now trying a different airline, living in Dallas. This was a scary leap of faith for them and they are having to adjust. We wish them the best.

We try to get together once every year or two with the Englebrights and Goudys for a little reunion. Here's a picture from 2002 when we met in Cedar City and went to the Shakespearean festival. (Love my post-baby bod...) We did that again last year. DeEtte, Marylynn and I took a trip to Vancouver a few years ago, too. We always enjoy being together. We love the Goudys and appreciate their friendship through the years.
