We finally squeezed in our family vacation, just a few days before school started.
Ahhh, what a great weekend. No phone calls, computers, or T.V. Just time to BE.
We started off our little vacation at Bear Lake, which is three hours north. Some good friends of ours recently purchased this cute little 1970’s cabin on the south shore. Complete with green shag carpet and wood paneling on the walls…it’s perfect! They were so, so nice to offer to let us use it. We really wanted to have some kind of vacation this summer, but it’s hard to do when you’re paying for an international adoption. And camping isn’t fun at all with two little ones in the mix. So this was such a blessing!
We invited my brother, Greg and his family to join us. They live only an hour and a half from the lake. It just so happened that my sister, Michelle and her family was at the lake that weekend, as well, staying with some neighbors at their family cabin about 15 minutes away. We joined them on on Saturday. They rented a ski boat for three hours, so the kids got to waterski and ride on the big inflatables. They were so nice to make us dinner that night, as well.
Sunday morning after packing up our things, Greg and Kris drove home and we went to the Laketown ward for Sacrament Meeting. When it was over, we stopped in Garden City for some famous Bear Lake raspberry milkshakes, then drove to Smithfield to spend some time with G&G Fillmore. Grandpa had just returned from a week-long trip to Alaska with Ryan. They brought home 90 pounds of freshly-caught salmon and halibut. Grandma made a delicious Sunday dinner for us. (Dang, I wish I had taken pictures!)
We spent Sunday night at their house, then left the next day for the big finale of our vacation, which was a day at Lagoon Amusement Park! It was Utah Down Syndrome day there, so we saw lots of friends throughout the day. We also got half-off our entrance fees.
For the first five hours, Jeremy stayed back in Logan with the two little's. Sadie, Landon and Max went off on their own while Bennett and I did our own thing. At the time I didn’t have my camera with me, but his favorite part of the whole park was Pioneer Village. We spent a good hour walking through all the old shops with the pioneer memorabilia displays. He had to carefully examine every little thing. Bennett loves collections and really loves little trinkety things. This was right up his alley. So much fun spending time with Bennett Boy.
We had dinner in a pavilion with the rest of the Ds families who were there. When we were there, we met one of Grandma Fillmore’s best friends from her childhood, Ora Lee (pictured below.) It just so happens that she has a daughter who has a 2-year-old with Ds, and they were at Lagoon that day, all the way from Montana! Another coincidence is that her daughter went to beauty school with my friend, Amy who’s daughter, Lacey (in the pink) goes to school with our kids at Lincoln. Did you get all that? Ha ha. Small world, eh?
We got home from Lagoon late Monday night, then school started the next morning for Landon and the day after that, the rest of the kids started. So this was literally an end-of-summer vacation. We’re so glad we got it in!
