Memorial Day Adventures

I love Memorial Day! It's great to have Jeremy take a day off of work and give us an excuse to do something a little different. I'd like to make it more of what it's supposed to be...a day to remember those who have gone before us.  We're still working on that. :)

It started at 6:30 am with a neighborhood 5K race. One of my neighbors, Emily Lesher who is a very talented (and brave!) photographer actually laid on the street to take this shot! She risked having her face stomped on. But it was definately worth it! Max is in the green long sleeves and jeans. He was so excited to go that I didn't get to approve of his attire before he darted out the door. :) He and his friends did the whole 3.1 miles! Way to go Max!

After the race, our neighborhood had a huge breakfast at the park and the HOA paid to rent some big bouncy things. The kids had a blast all morning.  This breakfast gets rained out almost every year, so we were grateful for the perfect weather!

In the afternoon we went to Temple square and out to eat for lunch. This is the third year we have done this on Memorial Day. We love how quiet it is downtown on Memorial day.

I love this new model of the temple.  It shows all the rooms on the inside in tiny detail.  It even shows the assembly hall on the top floor where the general authorities meet.  So cool!

 This was a really good kiss. Even if the kids were saying "ewww." :)

On our way home, we went out to the Bingham Copper Mine, which is the world's largest copper mine.  In all the years we've lived here, we've never been there!  It's awesome!  It's an enormous hole in the ground that was once a mountain!  We watched the gigantic dump trucks haul the dirt up the long roads, then went into the visitor center.  The kids loved it!

This is how big the tires are on the dump trucks!  Can you imagine driving one of those monsters?  These tires cost $17,000 each and last about 9 months.
