Max’s Fifth Grade Opera

M play 2

At our charter school, the 5th grade classes each put on an opera every year.
Max is our third 5th grader at this school. He has the same teacher that Landon had, 6 years ago, Mrs. Jackson. An awesome teacher who loves music!
Her class' is always the best! ;)

The students come up with the story line and characters, then they even put together the tunes that go along with it. Then a children's book author comes to the classroom and helps them arrange all words and put it into a good story line, and a musician helps them come up with a tune and composes the piano music. They spend hours working on the set and practicing for the big performances.

Max's class opera was about a group of school children who wanted to learn about George Washington, so they stepped into a time machine, then ended up in early Colonial America.

Max played one of the students and had the main speaking part, along with a solo singing part. We were floored at how good he sounded. The boy can sing! Who knew?

I'm so grateful for the moms who spent hours and hours helping put this together.
It was AWESOME! And I'm so proud of Max. One of the moms who directed the play told me afterword that Max was a leader with his group and how much she appreciated his help keeping things running smoothly. It made my mommy heart swell.
