Uintah Getaway

Last weekend we enjoyed two days tucked away in the Uintah Mountains at Jeremy's aunt and uncle's cabin. This was Landon's birthday weekend and we wanted to do something memorable. How lucky of us that we have extended family that's willing to share their treasure with us! Especially since we've been on a tight budget this summer.

The kids thought the cabin was SOOO cool. Built in the 1970's, it's charming, rustic, and adorned with 70's and 80's decor and antiques. How perfect! And the 50-inch plasma screen TV with satellite reception is just what we needed on Saturday when it was too cold to go outside and play.

The children had their first lesson on chopping wood and shooting a BB Gun. What a dream for a bunch of city kids. Sadie exclaimed, "This is as much fun as going to California!"

Friday afternoon, we drove to Mirror Lake, about 40 minutes away. Wow! What a beautiful place. You can see where the lake got it's name!

Check out this photo, taken the next morning at Butterfly Lake.

Photobucket Landon and Jeremy got up early and caught two fish here. They said it was absolutely majestic with the fog blanketing the lake. Here's the birthday boy in his element, spending time alone with his dad.

Back at the cabin while they were gone, it started raining, hailing and...you guessed it...snowing!

This is probably the only birthday during which Landon will ever see snow falling to the ground. Snow in August!!

It turned out to be a marvelous birthday for Landon. We got home just in time to go out back and enjoy a big Polynesian feast at the HOA Luau out back. The whole neighborhood even sang to him! Then we surprised him with a new mountain bike! He was one happy kid.

I never got the time to make a cake that day, so we did that part the next day. I'll put that part in the next post.

We had so much fun at this place! We are hoping to get to do it again next year. Thanks, Dick and Alaine for helping to provide a memorable weekend for our family (not that you read our blog...but THANKS!!) We loved it.
