Tuesday Hazel Update

The most beautiful smile greeted me this morning.

 She's doing much better today! See, she even posed for a glamour shot.

 We should get to move out of the ICU later today. Yay!

So...here are the latest findings:

She tested positive for Rhinovirus (the common cold,)

Para Influenza and Strep A.

(We didn't realize she was even sick!)

 All of this put together tells the doctors that her brain is probably inflamed

(viral encephalitis) which can sometimes cause lesions,

and/or make you lose consciousness.

The scattered legions found in the MRI are either a result of this,

or they have nothing to do with it. 

They say the water she gulped down in the pool 

probably wasn't the culprit per se, but the vomiting

that resulted from it could have put her brain over the edge.

Who knows?

Yesterday she had a hard time breathing. 

Her chest was sucking in and whistling with each breath.

The doctor couldn't figure out why she was having such a hard time

after having the breathing tube removed.

It usually makes people hoarse and a little croopy,

 but she was really struggling. They were relieved to find out that she has the flu!

So now we know why her airway was so inflamed!

Today, she is still wheezy and sleepy, but much more

responsive when she wakes up. She looks so much better.

And she's even smiling. Feeling grateful!

We are so grateful for the doctors and nurses here

in the PICU at Primary Children's Hospital.

They are so knowledgeable and

they care so much about their patients.

I want to give all of them the biggest hug to thank them

Our daughter wouldn't be here if it weren't for them!

Thank you soooo much for your prayers!

Life is precious. Our time on earth is short.

This experience has been a blessing for all of us, I think.

We need to cherish those we love much more than we do.
