The fun didn't end on the fourth of July! We spent Saturday, the fifth at the Freedom Festival in Provo & Orem.
There was a really neat exhibit thing at Scera Park in Orem this year. It was called "Ellis Island in the Park." They set it all up so that visitors would get a taste of what our ancestors went through when they passed through Ellis Island as they emmigrated to America.
Here's our (very unwilling) family, ready to make our new home in America.
After arriving at Ellis Island, we answered questions on a test about America. It asked questions about the flag, the states, the government, etc. Then we went to a station where we were given our official paperwork and recieved a copy of the constitution. We had to walk around this big star made of flags, and answer some questions that tested our commitment to America at each of the ten points of the star. Questions like, "Are you willing to die to maintain the freedom of the land?" After making the committments, we went to a booth where we were sworn in as US. Citizens.
After enduring such hardships in the hot sun for a whole half hour, the kids were very relieved to be treated to snow cones. Can you tell what flavors Bennett and Sadie had?
After Ellis Island, we drove to Provo for the Arts Festival. We walked through booths, then enjoyed some entertainment and kid crafts. Here's a funny couch that they painted red, white and blue and decorated with lovely embellishments.

Another cute Fillmore family outing. We were in Provo on July 5th too! I had my mother's family reunion up there. It was extremely boring, so we left early and headed to American Fork to shop. We would have called you, but we were anxious to get back to Mt. Pleasant. Looks like you were busy anyway...
Wow, you guys really know how to celebrate! I love the Ellis Island picture. The no smiles actually makes it look more like an old fashioned picture. You know how they never smiled in photographs back then? Seeing you great photos makes me wish I had taken more that day. I also enjoyed your meaningful patriotic post. I so enjoyed looking through your blog this evening. (and what a cool costume job you did on your Ellis Island family.) I think you are an amazing mother. I'm so grateful to have had a few moments with you this summer. You are such a good person and our talks reminded me that I just didn't have enough time with you and AF.
