Yesterday was Easter Sunday. We loved having Daddy home all morning. Also, the weather was close to 70 degrees after a cold week and the sunshine and our reflections on our Savior warmed our souls.
Last night after putting the girls down for bed, Jeremy spent some time on the living room chairs with Louie, talking with him about Jesus. We know he lived in a Christian group home for the past several years in China, but haven't been able to talk to him much about what he has learned about Jesus until lately because of the language barrier. Eli will be getting baptized in a few weeks and we want to use this time to teach Louie the gospel, as we help to prepare Eli.
Jeremy had the thought to pull up a video on lds.org about the resurrection. They watched together as Jesus died on the cross, then was placed in a tomb, then came to life again in full glory. I was in another room at the time, but could here Louie asking questions and Jeremy answering them as simply as he could for his level of understanding and English. I could hear that this was a great teaching moment.
One question that he asked Jeremy touched him deeply. It really took him by surprise, but at the same time, reminded him of the incredible spirit that we have known all along that this boy has inside his tiny, limited body.
"But Daddy, why are they hurting him?" He asked. "He didn't do anything wrong."
Such a simple question, but profound at the same time.
It seems that Louie understands that Jesus was perfect. Some day soon when he understands English a little more, we'll be able to explain it to him.

Yes, Louie. Jesus was perfect. People were horribly mean to him, but you're right. He didn't do anything wrong. He was allowing this to happen so that we could be free from OUR wrongs. He thought of you with every scourge. We are so thankful for Jesus Christ. He is our hope. The Prince of Peace.
